Brearley’s enrollment (K-12, divided into Lower School, Middle School and Upper School) today consists of about 670 students from throughout the New York metropolitan area who represent a diversity of backgrounds, experiences and points of view. The main, 12-story school building is located on East 83rd Street in Manhattan overlooking the East River. A new Field House, located on East 87th Street, anchors a comprehensive physical education and athletics program that includes team sports ranging from basketball and volleyball to soccer, swimming squash, track, field hockey and lacrosse.

The LFNY was the brainchild of the then French Consul General in New York, the Count Charles de Ferry de Fontnouvelle. He enlisted the help of Forsythe Wicks, a lawyer and businessman who was the president of Alliance Française and Paul Windels, Sr.—the attorney general of the City of New York. The French government has been closely involved with the School from the first. The French ambassadors to the United States of that period, M. André Lefèbvre de Laboulaye and subsequently M. René Doynel de Saint-Quentin were part of the original group of French and American founders of the School. Others who were involved in the founding of the LFNY in the late 1930's include: Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, the President of Columbia University, M. Hesse Strauss, the American Ambassador to France, and M. Jean Marx, the Director of Cultural Affairs at the Quai d'Orsay.

Cardinal Spellman HS is generally recognized as one of the finest Catholic high school structures in the nation. Its facilities include three floors of classrooms around a beautifully landscaped, Japanese-style, garden courtyard. In May of 1999, the courtyard was dedicated to the memory of Msgr Jeremiah Monahan, who had died suddenly in October, 1998.
In addition to the regular classrooms (each having closed-circuit television) there are many fully-equipped special-purpose rooms and learning spaces: a large Gymnasium which can be partioned into two or four smaller gyms, a Cafeteria for 700, a magnificent Auditorium with backstage space and rigging better than many Broadway theaters, a separate Little Theatre, a tiered Band Room and four separate and private music-practice rooms. |

Hempstead once an academic power in the 1980s has shown signs of decline recently. They began to shown major signs of improvements with high graduating classes of 2005 and again in 2006. In terms of test scores, in 2004 Hempstead had 57% of its students pass the Math A Regents Examination, up from 28% in 2003 (the state average in 2004 was 78%). In English for 2004, the passing rate stood at 66% up from 49% in 2003 (state avg.77%). In Physics, Hempstead had a 88% passing rate, compared to a 81% state average. Trinity's mission, stated in carefully considered terms, is essentially to provide its students with a setting—intellectual, moral, and physical—in which they can pursue the elements of a liberal education. We understand the idea of liberal education in different ways, all of us, but I'm pretty sure we could agree on a small number of things that are necessary to it: reading and writing accurately and truthfully; being curious and critical-minded; opening our minds to the ideas of others; questioning authority; maintaining self-respect and respect for the other. It is an endless project. Its ideals are woven through the ideals of democracy. I've come to think that, beyond the ideal of learning for its own sake, for the love of it, a liberal education serves politics. The political question is something like, "What is one to do with one's power?" How Trinity goes about the business of a liberal education is our way of answering that question.

Tottenville High School was established in 1898. The school’s first principal was Nathan J. Lowe. Tottenville High School was originally located in the building now home to Totten Intermediate Junior High School (I.S. 34). In 1972, the school moved to its current location in Huguenot. Dr. Mary E.
